Biathlon: Dorothea Wierer’s final season
Next February, the biathlete Dorothea Wierer from the Alps will experience a great moment at the Olympic Games in Milan/Cortina 2026: it will be her last international competition, and it will be held in her backyard in Antholz (Italy).
“Not everyone is as lucky as I am to be able to crown their career in this way,” she recently told the German online medium Chiemgau24.de.

The Olympics are her main objective, and she wants to get there by being physically and mentally at her best,” added her coach Fabio Cianciana. As her coach, I hope with all my heart that she achieves a significant result to round off her career in the best possible way.

A few days before she attempts to win one last Olympic medal, and why not the much sought-after gold, Dorothea Wierer could get a shot of emotion by carrying her national flag at the opening ceremony on 6 February.

Many other athletes could claim this honour,” she says. But it would obviously be a very great honour for me. The fact that the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI ) recently announced that two pairs of flag bearers would be designated, one for Milan (Italy), the other for Cortina d’Ampezzo (Italy), increases Dorothea Wierer‘s chances.
Last August, Tommaso Giacomel campaigned for his compatriot, tellingIl Dolomiti that Dorothea Wierer “wouldn’t steal anything from anyone” if she were appointed flag-bearer.
