Biathlon: terrible news for Daniel Gilfillan
At 20, Daniel Gilfillan is one of Canada’s biathlon hopefuls. Last winter, in Kontiolahti (Finland) and Hochfilzen (Austria), he took part in his first World Cup races.
This Friday, however, he announced a terrible blow: an injury less than two months before the start of the Olympic season.
“Earlier this week I fractured my fibula in an unpredictable training accident. It all happened so quickly: it’s one of those moments you can never really prepare for, no matter how much time, effort or planning you put into it,” he says on Instagram.
It’s hard to accept because it’s an Olympic year, something I had circled on the calendar and had been preparing for for a long time,” he continues. To suffer a serious injury at a time like this is incredibly frustrating. I’ve put so much into preparing for this season, and to have it all disrupted so suddenly is hard to take.”
However, the biathlete from Canmore (Canada) explains that this blow to his health does not represent “the end of the story”, but “a new chapter”.” I’ve overcome obstacles before, and I’ll do everything I can to come back stronger,” he concludes.
