Biathlon: an unknown first in yellow for Eric Perrot
This Friday afternoon, at precisely 2.54pm, Eric Perrot will start the biathlon world cup sprint in Hochfilzen (Austria). For the occasion, five days after his brilliant victory in the mass-start in Kontiolahti (Finland), he will be wearing the yellow bib of overall leader.
The ninth Frenchman in history to experience this joy, the ambitious Peiserot is about to make a dream come true. So, since last Sunday, he has not hesitated to take advice from his team-mates who are used to the exercise.

“I’ve had a few discussions with Lou [Jeanmonnot] and Quentin [Fillon-Maillet]. I’ll be talking a bit with Emilien [Jacquelin] and the other people who have worn it, he told Nordic Magazine earlier this week. It’s a natural part of the discussion and I think they’ll want to tell me what they felt. As usual, I’ll take the best of what I learn and try to do my own mental preparation. After that, and I like doing this, I’ll improvise with the jersey on my back. I like these new situations, which are very stimulating. I’m really looking forward to this experience.”
“I’m not going to think I’m stronger than I am, I don’t have the experience of the yellow jersey, I don’t know what it’s like”
While the yellow number can be transcendent, Eric Perrot does not want to fall into the trap of overconfidence.
“I’m not going to think I’m stronger than I am, I don’t have the experience of the yellow jersey, I don’t know what it’s like, he says maturely. You think that it’s going to unfold, but I think that those who have already had it say that it’s harder than they expected. The jersey will change things, it’s something new, but I know what I want. It’s like one last shot at victory, until you experience it, you don’t know what it’s like. I don’t know how I’m going to react, but I know my plan and I’m going to try to follow it while improvising. But I’m going to enjoy it, too, because these are good times!”

That’s why the Savoyard doesn’t hesitate to reiterate what he’s been saying for several weeks now : the aim will be above all to follow his plan, and nothing else. “In the end, I approach it like I approach every race. I put my plan on paper and I know what I want to achieve. I’m going to fight 100% to be able to put those things in place, he reveals. I’m going to try to be very clear about what I want to put in place and I’m going to try to challenge myself on that front to have the best possible race.”
At around 3.30pm, we’ll know whether Eric Perrot has succeeded in meeting his challenge for the day:his big debut in yellow.
