Biathlon: Amandine Mengin in the IBU Cup
On Tuesday morning, after a long day’s journey to Arber (Germany), Vosges biathlete Amandine Mengin discovered the German venue. Her first steps were hampered by the difficult weather conditions raging in Bavaria.
“The weather’s not been great, we’ve been in a storm”, she told Nordic Magazine from her hotel room early this afternoon after lunch. Selected for the first time in her career on the B circuit at the age of 20, the member of La Bressaude Section Ski is coming off an ideal start to the winter.

French U22 summer biathlon champion in the autumn, she followed that up with selection for the Junior Cup in December. In Ridnaun-Val Ridanna (Italy) and then Goms (Switzerland), she shone brightly, taking two individual podiums and a relay victory.
“I didn’t expect to finish so well straight away, she explains, even though she hadn’t competed in an international race since the start of 2022. Seeing that I was capable of reaching that level gave me confidence. I enjoyed biathlon and that’s the most important thing!”
A near-perfect weekend in Prémanon to clinch his place
So it was with this in mind thatAmandine Mengin took the start of the French Cup at Prémanon (Jura) on Saturday and Sunday.
“I knew there were places up for grabs and I’m very happy to be going, but my main aim was to score points so that I could go to the European Junior Championships [at the end of the month], says the Vosges native. The IBU Cup wasn’t in my plan, but now I’m there, I’m not going to complain!”

Second in the sprint and then winner of the Mass-Start 60 in the Haut-Jura, Amandine Mengin has more than earned her place in the IBU Cup. “It’s an important step for me, she says. Last winter, I didn’t take any international selections and, this year, I’m starting with the Junior Cup and then moving up to the IBU Cup. I’ve made a lot of progress and I’m proud of myself. Hard work pays off!”
“I’m going to try to gain as much experience as possible”
The Bressaude spent the summer under the combined guidance of Léo Ponceot and Véronique Claudel, as part of the Elite Vosges Ski Team. Months of preparation have enabled her to break new ground, particularly in shooting where she was previously under a lot of stress.

At the IBU Cup, Amandine Mengin will be looking to enjoy herself and make the most of the moment. “It’s going to be a lot of discovery because it’s a circuit I don’t know at all. I’m going to try to gain as much experience as possible, she says. I’m not putting any pressure on myself, I just want to have fun and do the things I know how to do: good biathlon, but for myself. I won’t look at the result until the end of the race!”
Finally, the biathlete from the Massif des Vosges is making a discovery surrounded by experienced biathletes such as Camille Bened, Gilonne Guigonnat and Sophie Chauveau. “I’m going to learn a lot from them,” she concludes.
