Biathlon: a summer scare for Sweden’s Jesper Nelin
At the end of last winter, Swedish biathlete Jesper Nelin was delighted with his first individual World Cup podium . He was also crowned world champion in the relay earlier in the season, so he had a great 2023/2024.
His preparations for 2024/2025, on the other hand, got off to a bad start. As he recounted in Expressen, Jesper Nelin suffered blood poisoning in the spring following a blood test carried out as part of a doping control.
After a few days, the veins in the Scandinavian’s arm turned black. The athlete’s father, a doctor, reacted: “He immediately gave me some antibiotics”, says Jesper Nelin, who admits he was worried about his health.
“But after three days, it went away”, he continues, and since then he seems to have regained his form. At the training camp in Font-Romeu (Pyrénées-Orientales), he actually won an internal time trial.
