Biathlon: Johannes Thingnes Boe on altitude training camp in Italy
Last August, Norwegian biathlete Johannes Thingnes Boe, who has a total of 85 successes at the highest international level, publicly revealed in the columns of NRK that he had set himself the career-ending goal of beating the record set by his illustrious compatriot Ole Einar Bjoerndalen. The latter has set the bar at 95.
Currently on an altitude training camp with his team-mates on the Lavazè pass (Italy), he reiterated this desire in an interview with Fondo Italia: “My goal is to beat Ole Einar Bjoerndalen’s record of victories”, he says.
“I want to be able to tell my son that I was the greatest biathlete of all time,” he added with a laugh. As far as his preparation is concerned, Johannes Thingnes Boe explains that this Italian camp is an “important stage” just a few weeks before the start of the winter season.
A recumbent shot to improve
Despite his immense domination of the world circuit, the man with five crystal globes has no problems with motivation.
“I think it’s easy for me to go after it, he says. I take good breaks after seasons when I’m not focused on training. It allows me to recharge my batteries and keep my motivation levels high, while not being too tired all year round.”
A perfectionist, Johannes Thingnes Boe believes that there is still too much room for improvement in his recumbent shot and that he needs to improve it “to be more consistent”. “I think my skiing and my standing shot are very good, I just need to train well in this last month of preparation before the start of the season”, he concluded.
