Biathlon: Julia Simon cheered on by Ingrid Landmark Tandrevold at the mass-start in Kontiolahti
This Sunday morning, Norway’s Ingrid Landmark Tandrevold, who sufferedheart rhythm problems during the first two races of the week at the Biathlon World Cup in Kontiolahti(Finland), officially withdrew from the next round of the circuit.
Far from brooding at the hotel, the Scandinavian was at the Finnish stadium in the afternoon to cheer on her compatriots in the mass start… and on France’s Julia Simon. It has to be said that the two biathletes are great friends, the Beaufortaine having attendedIngrid Landmark Tandrevold ‘s wedding last summer.
“I exchanged messages with Ingrid [Landmark Tandrevold] before the race and I said to myself that I was lucky to be at the start, not her. I raced for two and I enjoyed myself, admitted the Frenchwoman in the mixed zone to La Chaîne L’Equipe after her race, which finished in a brilliant second place. She was at the side of the track the whole race, cheering me on and that gave me a lot of energy. It was a really tough race. I had to dig deep, deep down.”
She reassured herself and “set the record straight”.
This fine performance also puts Julia Simon’s mind at rest after her poor finishes in the individual short and then the sprint. “I’m very happy to be back on track, and I hope I can keep up the momentum, she said just before the awards ceremony. In any case, I’ve got my head back on my shoulders and I’m starting to get back to a level that’s close to mine. I hope to keep that momentum going.”
From next Friday, in the sprint at Hochfilzen (Austria), the Savoyard will have the opportunity to show that this difficult start is just a bad memory.
