Biathlon: second silver medal of the day for France
Early on Friday afternoon, we witnessed a thrilling mixed single relay in Altenberg (Germany) as part of the European Junior Biathlon Championships.
Although France’s Léo Carlier and Célia Henaff quickly took off in the lead along with Germany’s Linus Kesper and Charlotte Gallbronner, the two duos were evenly matched at the halfway stage of the race. It was during the last two stints that the race went wild.

First of all, Linus Kesper cracked on his feet with a penalty lap and three picks, leaving Léo Carlier of Doubt, who handed over to Célia Henaff with a lead of 29.5 seconds over Germany. At that point, it looked like the die had been cast and all La Beaufortaine had to do was finish the job to clinch the gold medal.

Solid on the dismount, she also gained a few extra seconds… before completely missing out on the stand-up, turning on the penalty ring. As a result, Charotte Gallbronner, at 5/5, came out of the shooting range 7 sec 3 ahead of the Frenchwoman. But Célia Henaff didn’t give up, coming back into her rival’s skis. All this before unfortunately losing the final sprint.

The Czech Republic, led by David Elias and Katerina Pavlu, took bronze ahead of Sweden, Austria, Ukraine, Latvia, Slovakia, Poland and Italy, the final member of the top 10.
