Biathlon: a Junior Cup podium for Ian Martinet
On Thursday afternoon, 21-year-old Savoie biathlete Ian Martinet came within a whisker of his first international victory. The fastest skier in the individual event at the Junior Cup in Ridnaun-Val Ridanna (Italy), he made a shooting error on his last standing run.

A missed target cost him victory… but it was more generally on the entire shooting range that he let his success slip away. The winner, Germany’s Linus Kesper (19/20), was indeed faster than him and won by 21 sec 6, while Italy’s Davide Compagnoni (19/20) was third at 34 sec 4.

His compatriot Felix Ratschiller (19/20), Austria’s Thomas Marchl (19/20) and Poland’s Grzegorz Galica (18/20) complete the flower ceremony. Next in the top 10 are Erik Hafenmair (19/20), Michele Carollo (18/20), Cesare Lozza (19/20) and Daniel Glasser (20/20).

In their wake were Frenchmen Léo Carlier (18/20), eleventh, Lou Thiévent (18/20), twelfth, and Edgar Geny (17/20), thirteenth. Vosgien Guillaume Poirot (16/20) was seventeenth, while Lionel Jouannaud (15/20) finished twenty-first. Benjamin De Grimaudet De Rochebouet (16/20) was forty-fifth.
