Biathlon: Amandine Mengin regains a world junior medal
Already runner-up in the junior biathlon world championships in the individual and mixed relays in the first two races in Östersund (Sweden), 20-year-old Amandine Mengin from the Vosges added another medal to her tally on Sunday.
In the sprint, the Bressaude, who started the race in twentieth position, clocked a 9/10 behind her rifle. As usual this winter, Amandine Mengin was also quick on her skis and managed to hold on to a place on the podium, snatching bronze 30.7 seconds from the winner.

Ukraine’s Olena Horodna (9/10) came within a whisker of snatching the prize, but finished fourth, 1 sec 1 behind the Frenchwoman.

Ahead of her, Austria’s Anna Andexer (9/10) competed in a different category and became U22 world sprint champion. A first for her country. Incidentally, she is only the second Austrian to win gold at the World Junior Championships after Susanna Kurzthaler, who won the individual event in 2016.

Sweden’s Sara Andersson (9/10), last year’s winner, relinquished her crown, but took silver at 8.9 seconds.
The small globe for Fabiana Carpella
Montblanc’s Voldiya Galmace-Paulin (8/10) finished fifth, committing one fault too many to have any hope of a podium finish, while Norway’s Silje Berg-Knutsen (10/10) completed the flower ceremony.
Lotta De Buhr (9/10), Célia Henaff (8/10), Lea Zimmermann (9/10) and Estere Volfa (8/10) made it into the top 10 ahead of Anaëlle Bondoux (8/10), eleventh.

Thirteenth on the day, Italy’s Fabiana Carpella (9/10) won the Junior Cup small globe in the sprint… and saw Amandine Mengin move back to 51 points overall before the closing Mass-Start 60 on Monday.
