Biathlon: Kasper Kalkenberg, the junior title a year after winning the youth title
On Monday afternoon, the fourth and final mass-start 60 of the day concerned the junior men at the World Biathlon Championships in Östersund (Sweden). In the snow and still in the wind, the show was on once again.
Crowned triple world youth champion in February 2024 in Otepää (Estonia), Norway’s Kasper Kalkenberg won gold this time in the junior category after a crazy race. With 15/20 on the mats, but a great deal of speed, he managed to get the better of Finland’s Jimi Klemettinen (17/20) in the final round to claim the title.
At 32.9 seconds, it was the Czech Petr Hak (15/20), who overtook Andreas Aas (17/20) and Bohdan Borkovskyi (15.20) in the final kilometres, who took bronze. Sixth-placed Montblanc Gaëtan Paturel, despite a 13/20, completed the day’s flower ceremony.
The big globe for Matija Legovic, the small one for Sondre Slettemark
The Croatian Matija Legovic (14/20), seventh in this mass-start 60, consoles himself by winning the crystal globe as overall Junior Cup winner.
It was Greenland’s Sondre Slettemark, who did not take part in this race, who won the small globe of the speciality.
Among the other French competitors, Corentin Jacob (13/20) was twelfth, Edgar Geny (9/20) twenty-eighth and Axel Garnier (12/20) thirty-first.
