Biathlon: ten Estonians in Kontiolahti for the World Cup opener
On Sunday evening, a few hours after the end of the Swedish opening biathlon races in Idre Fjäll (Sweden), which served as early-season selections, the Estonian Biathlon Federation unveiled the list of athletes selected for the first round of the World Cup scheduled to take place in Kontiolahti (Finland) from 30 November to 8 December.
Tuuli Tomingas had already qualified thanks to her place in the top 25 in the last general ranking, but the other tickets were decided in Sweden. Fourth in the individual short then fourteenth in the sprint, Robert Heldna made a strong impression and booked his ticket for Finland. He will be competing there alongside the very solid Rene Zahkna, third in the sprint, as well as Kristo Siimer, Mark-Markos Kehva and Yaroslav Neyerov.
On the women’s side, the four other lucky winners were Regina Ermits, Susan Kuelm, Johanna Talihaerm and Hanna-Brita Kaasik. Despite finishing twelfth in the individual short, Violetta Konopljova had to make do with the IBU Cup.
