Biathlon : last place for Martin Ponsiluoma
On Sunday, at the biathlon World Cup mass start in Le Grand-Bornand (Haute-Savoie), things got off to a pretty good start for Anna Magnusson and Sara Andersson. But the wind shifted for the Swedes in the first standing race. Their leader, Elvira Oeberg, with four errors, also had no chance of a podium finish at the end of a race marked by rain and snow.

For SVT Sport consultant Mona Brorsson (quoted by Aftonbladet), the biathlete had her ups and downs. Firstly, after her third shot, she was not up to the task on skis: “She is unable to keep up with Lampic and has lost almost 15 seconds”, she said live. Then, at the microphone, she judged that her compatriot had resources. Which is true. Elvira Oeberg finished ninth with the fifth best ski time.
It was little consolation after a day to forget: “A really shitty competition”, said Martin Ponsiluoma. The Scandinavian finished last, just over four minutes behind the winner. He made no fewer than ten faults (two on his first three passes in front of the targets, four on the last stand-up). ” It’s bad from start to finish”, he added, reluctant to make excuses, as reported in his country’s press.

Sebastian Samuelsson, who finished tenth, also missed several balls, including two on the first lie, which annoyed him. ” It’s sad to start like this,” he said. Above all, all these errors are incompressible, if we are to believe coach Jean-Marc Chabloz, as Expressen points out, repeating his statements on television: “I can’t explain why. There was very little wind.
“It wasn’t easy on the piste today. The skis were good for the first half of the course, but on the long descent, I didn’t really have any speed,” tried to analyse Jesper Nelin, 23rd.

Before the Christmas break, Sebastian Samuelsson prefers to turn the page and see the glass as half full. ” It’s not the best race I’ve done, but if I look at the start of the season as a whole, I’ve been in the top ten in all but one race,” says the Swede.
