Biathlon: the schedule for the 2026/2027, 2027/2028, 2028/2029 and 2029/2030 World Cups is now known
At midday on Friday, the IBU unveiled the broad outlines of the calendar for the 2026/2027, 2027/2028, 2028/2029 and 2029/2030 Biathlon World Cups. Among the major announcements, the first is that Le Grand-Bornand (Haute-Savoie) has been placed on the calendar for December 2026 (8 to 13) and December 2028 (5 to 10).
Then, for the 2026/2027 and 2028/2029 seasons, a new two-day World Cup event will be held in Pokljuka (Slovenia) on the weekend of late December/early January.
In order to preserve the well-being of the athletes and to limit the number of competition days, the introduction of this two-day event will be compensated by the elimination of the season-opening weekend in November in both seasons,” states the IBU in its communication. The two-week break in December will also be respected after consultation with athletes and teams, in order to guarantee the necessary time for rest, recovery and training.”
Oberhof postponed until late February/early March
In addition, the World Cup in Oberhof (Germany), traditionally held in the first week of January, has been moved to the end of February/beginning of March, just after the major winter championship in question. This decision was taken “to take advantage of the more favourable weather conditions towards the end of the season”, says the IBU.

It should be noted that, for the 2028/2029 season, this stage in Thuringia will immediately follow the World Championships in Oslo-Holmenkollen (Norway).“The usual break after the World Championships will precede the North American tour at the end of the season,” explains the world biathlon governing body.
Finally, after hosting the World Championships this year, Lenzerheide (Switzerland) is consolidating its presence on the World Cup calendar, which will take place in January 2028 and late February/early March 2030.
