Biathlon: fourth individual world title for Julia Simon
On Tuesday afternoon, in the sunshine of Lenzerheide (Switzerland), Julia Simon became world champion in the individual event. In this format, in which she had never won before in her career, the Beaufort native scored 19/20 to win and claim a gold medal.
She thus becomes the fourth French individual world champion after Corinne Niogret (1995, 2000), Emmanuelle Claret (1996) and Marie Dorin-Habert (2016). Nine years after Iséroise, she offers France a new world title in this speciality.
This gold medal is also the fourth in Julia Simon’s career that she has won individually. After the pursuit in 2023 and the sprint/chase double in 2024, she wins a new title and climbs the hierarchy of the most successful biathletes in history.
She thus equalled Olena Zubrilova, Laura Dahlmeier, Tora Berger, Marie Dorin-Habert, Andrea Henkel and Petra Schaaf. Two lengths ahead of her are Magdalena Neuner, Magdalena Forsberg and Liv Grete Poirée.
