Biathlon: a (very) difficult mixed relay for Ingrid Landmark Tandrevold
On Wednesday, during the mixed relay at the Biathlon World Championships in Lenzerheide (Switzerland), Norway’s Ingrid Landmark Tandrevold had a nightmare on the shooting range. Using three picks and spinning on the penalty ring once in both the standing and prone events, she got off to a very poor start in the race for the kingdom, which ended up in fourth place at the finish, a whisker away from bronze.
“I feel bad for the team. It’s normal to be disappointed, but on a relay, there are other people who are also affected, she explained later in front of the TV2 cameras. I’m also thinking of those who weren’t at the start today [Wednesday]. There are people who could have done better than me.”

“As she says, it would have been easy to manage if it was an individual race, but when it’s a relay, it’s so terrible. It’s sad and you feel like you’re ruining everything for the others,” Ole Einar Bjoerndalen told TV2 later that evening.
In fact, the former biathlon king – who was present on the shooting range at every race on the world circuit, binoculars in front of his eyes to observe everything – was worried even before the start. The shooting trials were difficult for the Norwegians. “They seemed to be on edge,” says Ole Einar Bjoerndalen.
Ole Einar Bjoerndalen’s advice on mental freshness
As for the specific case ofIngrid Landmark Tandrevold, the man with 45 world medals believes that it is above all a problem of concentration.
“When I hear her comment on her shot after the race, she doesn’t understand why she can’t hit the target. The shots are too low and a bit on either side, he says. So it’s not easy to know what to do. But she doesn’t see it, maybe because she’s too tired to concentrate.”

Ole Einar Bjoerndalen is advising his compatriot to be mentally fresh. “If I had to give one piece of advice, it would be that she should try to become the Ingrid she used to be. I don’t think that simply practising shooting will help her, but rather that she needs to distance herself from it all. She should try to shoot a little less,” he says.
