Biathlon | Lenzerheide World Championships : France secured top spot in the medals table, but still has several records in its sights before the mass-starts

Biathlon: two more races to break records for France

Every day since the start of the World Biathlon Championships in Lenzerheide (Switzerland), the French team has been piling up the medals. After ten races, Les Bleus have won twelve: six golds, one silver and five bronze.

As a result,the French are already guaranteed to finish the competition at the top of the medals table for the fifth time after 1995, 2015, 2016 and 2024. However, other records remain in the French sights ahead of the two closing mass-starts, in which nine biathletes will be competing.

First, there’s the number of medals. In its history, the French team has never won more than thirteen, and that was last year in Nove Mesto (Czech Republic). So they are just one short of equalling it. The absolute record is fourteen medals, held by Norway since Pokljuka 2021.

Two titles away from the absolute record, the grand slam within reach

Then there are the records for the number of titles won, which the Tricolor clan have already beaten or equalled. With six gold medals won so far, Les Bleus have already equalled the records set at Nove Mesto 2024 and Oslo-Holmenkollen 2016. The all-time record stands at eight titles, held by Norway (Nove Mesto 2013).

Furthermore, if France, which has so far achieved a perfect record, were to win at least one medal in each of the day’s mass-starts, it would be a magnificent, historic, improbable and unprecedented grand slam.
