Biathlon: an opening in the village of Lenzerheide
In the early evening of Tuesday, the opening ceremony of the Biathlon World Championships in Lenzerheide (Switzerland) took place in the centre of the Swiss village. It was an opportunity for Olle Dahlin, the Swedish president of the IBU, to emphasise the historic nature of this event.
“For the first time in the history of our sport, we are preparing to hold our flagship competition in Switzerland, he said. Switzerland is a country that is very proud of its winter sports heritage, but also of its very promising future in biathlon. Over the past 20 years, Lenzerheide and Swiss biathlon have undergone an extraordinary development and we are delighted to see the next steps in this development with the hosting of a fantastic World Championship with incredible athlete performances and unforgettable competitions.”
