Biathlon: Swiss-Ski and Lukas Keel part ways
On Friday morning, Swiss-Ski announced the forthcoming departure of Lukas Keel, its biathlon director since 2021.
“When I took up my post nearly four years ago, my personal planning was geared towards the 2024/2025 season and these World Championships, he explains. Leaving the Swiss biathlon team at the end of this season is a difficult decision, but I’m delighted to be taking on this new challenge that has presented itself to me over the last few weeks. I will once again be working in an area that is particularly close to my heart.”
Lukas Keel, 57, from the Sargans region, will be staying in the sports industry and working in the cycling sector in the future.
“It is with regret that we have taken note of Lukas Keel’s decision to step down as head of Swiss biathlon, says Walter Reusser, one of the heads of Swiss-Ski. Under his leadership, Swiss biathlon has continued to flourish in recent years. With a view to the home World Championships, Lukas Keel has succeeded in building a team capable of competing repeatedly for medals.”
Despite a difficult first season, Lukas Keel’s ten-year tenure at the helm of the Swiss biathlon has so far yielded ten World Cup podium finishes, including the first Swiss victories for over 10 years. The name of his successor will be announced in due course.
