Biathlon: second career European title for Isak Frey
This Wednesday afternoon, the 2025 European Biathlon Championships continued in Martell-Val Martello (Italy) with the individual men’s race. A few hours after Germany’s Johanna Puff took the title in the women’s race, Norway’s Isak Frey dominated the proceedings.
Always very fast on the cross-country track and scoring 18/20 on the mats on the shooting range, the leader of the IBU Cup circuit won after more than 54 minutes of effort, giving himself a fifth individual victory this season on the B circuit.
Having already been crowned European pursuit champion last season, this is the second continental gold medal of his career. Isak Frey is also continuing Norway’s fine run of individual Euro titles, since SverreDahlen Aspenes won in 2022, Endre Stroemsheim in 2023 and Vebjoern Soerum in 2024.
On the podium, Harald V’s subject was accompanied by two surprises: Austria’s Fredrik Muehlbacher (19/20), silvered at 31 sec 7, and Sweden’s Emil Nykvist (19/20), bronzed at 47 sec 2.
Oscar Lombardot nineteenth, an Italian with flowers at home
The flower ceremony was completed by Norwegians Vetle Sjaastad Christiansen (18/20) and Johan-Olav Botn (18/20) and Italian Patrick Braunhofer (17/20). Johannes Dale-Skjevdal (16/20), Sivert Guttorm Bakken (18/20), Lucas Fratzscher (18/20) and Tomas Mikyska (18/20) also made the top 10.
A difficult day overall for the French. Doubiste Oscar Lombardot (16/20), who was aiming for the podium right up until the last shot before falling, was the best of them in nineteenth place. Gaëtan Paturel (16/20) is twenty-first.
Further back, we find Edgar Geny (16/20) forty-third, Valentin Lejeune (15/20) fiftieth, Rémi Broutier (14/20) fifty-first and Théo Guiraud-Poillot (13/20) seventy-seventh.
