Biathlon | Nordic skiing: with Juerg Capol, Switzerland has its new Nordic boss
On Thursday morning, Swiss-Ski announced the recruitment of Juerg Capol as Nordic Director from 1 April 2025 to replace Norway’s Guri Knotten, who has resigned in recent months.
A former World Cup cross-country skier, the Graubünden native has been boss of the 2025 Lenzerheide Biathlon World Championships since spring 2022. Responsible for the planning and operational implementation of the competition, he had already held this position for the 2023 European Biathlon Championships and the first Biathlon World Cup stage organised in Switzerland last December at the Roland Arena.
In the past, Juerg Capol has also held various positions within the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS), most recently as Marketing Director. From 2003 to 2012, he worked as director of cross-country ski races, and before that as head of marketing for the organisation of the 2003 Alpine World Ski Championships in Saint-Moritz (Switzerland). Along with Norwegian Vegard Ulvang, he was also behind the creation of the Tour de Ski some twenty years ago.

“Nordic skiing has been part of my life for decades in all kinds of roles. I’m therefore delighted to be able to continue in a position of responsibility for Swiss Nordic skiing after my commitment to the Biathlon World Championships in Lenzerheide,” explains Juerg Capol in a press release.
We believe he is the ideal person to take charge of the Federation’s Nordic management, says Walter Reusser, head of sports at Swiss-Ski. Heknows snow sports better than anyone else from different angles, he’s a man of action and he knows how to work as part of a team. I’m looking forward to working even more closely with him in the future.”
In his new role, Juerg Capol will report directly to the heads of the disciplines with operational responsibility for cross-country skiing (Lars Broennimann), ski jumping/Nordic combined (Joel Bieri) and biathlon (Lukas Keel).
