Biathlon : a minute’s applause, a tribute video and an empty gate
Ahead of the men’s sprint inOberhof (Germany), the first World Cup race since the tragic death of Norwegian Sivert Guttorm Bakken on 23 December, a tribute was paid to the memory of the Norwegian. It was an emotional moment for the international biathlon caravan at theArena am Rennsteig.
In the front row, the Norwegian biathletes were accompanied by Italy’s Tommaso Giacomel. In front of the video paying tribute to the deceased, the emotion was too strong and the colossus Vetle Sjaastad Christiansen could not hold back his tears. Beside him, Johannes Dale-Skjevdal held bib number 1, symbolically reserved for Sivert Guttorm Bakken.

All eyes then turned to an empty start gate, while the applause did not stop until the start of number 2, Latvian Renars Birkentals.
