Biathlon: “As far as my approach is concerned, it’s business as usual”, says Selina Grotian
Selina Grotian is undoubtedly one of the revelations of the early season. After her first top 5 finish in the sprint at Hochfilzen (Austria) on 13 December, she rounded off 2024 perfectly with her first success on the main circuit in the mass-start at Le Grand-Bornand (Haute-Savoie). This victory gave her a new status, even if the main contender prefers to focus on continuity.

“As far as my approach is concerned, it’s business as usual. I’m not doing anything different because I now have a victory in my pocket. I’m concentrating on continuing to give my best and having fun at the start, exactly as I have done up until now,” said the 20-year-old biathlete in a press release from the German Ski Association.
Oberhof, a not-to-be-missed event
As a result, Selina Grotian is approaching the week in Oberhof (Germany), at home, full of confidence. “Over the last two weeks, I’ve been able to rest really well. The weather and conditions at home were just perfect – it really couldn’t have been better! I’ve made the most of this time to prepare for the World Cup in Oberhof,” she says.
With the event taking place at the legendary Arena am Rennsteig, which offers biathletes an incredible atmosphere, Selina Grotian is looking forward to this experience after her first one last season.

“I’m really looking forward to it, because I still remember last year’s impressive atmosphere very well. The fans were so loud and lively that it felt like the ground was shaking under my feet as I climbed the Birxsteig. I’ll never forget that! So I’m all the more looking forward to reliving that atmosphere and celebrating with you all a real highlight of the season.”
A crowd that Selina Grotian will be trying to fire up as she attempts to succeed Denise Hermann-Wick, the last German woman to win in Thuringia in the sprint at the 2023 World Championships.
