12:42. Italian Tommaso Giacomel won the biathlon world cup sprint in Oberhof (Germany) on Thursday, taking 90 points off Norway’s Johan-Olav Botn in the overall rankings. Botn was absent from this week’s race in Thuringia.
With a total of 521 points, he is 39 points behind the current holder of the yellow bib ahead of Saturday’s pursuit. Sixth today, Eric Perrot (492) is 69 points behind. Sebastian Samuelsson (440), Vetle Sjaastad Christiansen (369), Sturla Holm Lægreid (333), Quentin Fillon-Maillet (330) and Johannes Dale-Skjevdal (325) follow.

Twenty-first-placed Isak Frey (165) keeps his blue bib as best U23 rider. Tommaso Giacomel (234), meanwhile, takes the red bib for the sprint speciality, which he will wear next week in Ruhpolding (Germany).
