Biathlon: first small globe in the sprint for Franziska Preuss
Before perhaps lifting the big crystal globe as overall winner of the biathlon World Cup in two days’ time, Germany’s Franziska Preuss won the small globe in the sprint on Friday.
Winner of the finals in Oslo-Holmenkollen (Norway) in the afternoon, the 31-year-old biathlete won the speciality ranking with 414 points, well ahead of Lou Jeanmonnot (346) and Justine Braisaz-Bouchet (318), her nearest pursuers.
This is the second time in her career that Franziska Preuss has won a small globe, following on from the mass start in 2015. She also becomes the sixth German woman to lift the sprint globe after Uschi Disl (1991, 1997), Kati Wilhelm (2005, 2006), Magdalena Neuner (2008, 2011, 2012), Simone Hauswald (2010) and Denise Herrmann-Wick (2020, 2023).
