Biathlon: Les Bleus take gold in Östersund
They did it. On Tuesday afternoon, Camille Grataloup-Manissolle, Antonin Guy and Léo Carlier set off to win the world youth biathlonrelay title in Östersund (Sweden). On the slopes of Jämtland county, the Tricolores had their sights set on a gold medal that France had not won for thirteen years.
And it would be an understatement to say that this race went off in the best possible way for the French team. It’s quite simple: there was blue-white-red at the top of the rankings at each of the relay’s intermediate points! First, Camille Grataloup-Manissolle from Dauphiné got things off to a perfect start with 3 picks and, above all, incredible speed on his cross-country skis.

Launching his team-mate Antonin Guy 19 seconds 9 seconds ahead of his closest rival, he allowed the individual world champion to take his foot off the pedal. With a single pick, he remained alone in the lead… but Germany (Luca Anding, Lukas Tannheimer, Korbi Kuebler) came back and came within 15 sec 9 with one stint to go.
Third title after 2009 and 2012 for Les Bleus
It was therefore a long-distance duel between Léo Carlier and Korbi Kuebler that was to decide the outcome of this World Championship relay. With both men picking twice each, the positions did not change, allowing the Doubiste man, faster on skis, to enjoy the final straight with the flag in his hands.

Camille Grataloup-Manissolle, Antonin Guy and Léo Carlier enabled France to become world youth relay champions for the third time after 2009(Florent Claude, Clément Jacquelin and Ludwig Ehrhart) and 2012(Clément Dumont, Florian Rivot and Aristide Bègue).

The Germans were silver at 35.6 seconds, while the Czech Republic (Jakub Bouska, Frantisek Jelinek, Michael Malek) got the better of Austria in the final round for bronze. Canada, Switzerland, Norway, Italy, Ukraine and the United States rounded out the day’s top 10.
