Biathlon: Germany crowned, France silvered ahead of Austria
In biathlon, it’s not just about skiing the fastest to win. This Friday afternoon, the French team competing in the mixed relay at the Junior World Championships in Östersund (Sweden) learned this the hard way. Voldiya Galmace-Paulin, Amandine Mengin, Gaëtan Paturel and Edgar Geny set a fantastic time in the combined event, setting the other countries back by more than 2 minutes.

However, Les Bleus made too many mistakes on the shooting range. Voldiya Galmace-Paulin, for one, had to turn once on the ring, while Gaëtan Paturel visited it three times on his prone shot. In spite of thirteen picks on top of that, the Tricolores took advantage of their speed on skis to stay in the medal hunt.

Amandine Mengin, in particular, had a good run, as did Edgar Geny, the day’s finisher. In a battle with Austrian Fabian Muellauer for silver, the Haut-Savoyard managed to clinch the medal… despite a fall in the final hectometres. 16 sec 9 ahead, Germany’s Alma Siegismund, Lotta De Buhr, Fabian Kaskel and Linus Kesper won the title with a 9-pick shot.

Norway(Ann Kristin Aaland, Siri Skar, Kasper Kalkenberg, Sivert Gerhardsen) is fourth, then Ukraine, Bulgaria, Sweden, Poland, Italy and the Czech Republic complete the top 10.
