Biathlon: the Swedes face off this weekend in Östersund
This weekend, Sweden’s top biathletes competed in in-house time trials on ski-wheels in Östersund (Sweden). At the venue, which will host the first stage of the World Cup in less than 50 days’ time, Saturday was reserved for sprints , while mass-starts were on the programme for Sunday.
In the men’s race, Sebastian Samuelsson took the opportunity to sign a magnificent double, winning the sprint at 9/10 and the mass-start at 18/20. Martin Ponsiluoma was second in the sprint (9/10) and third in the mass-start (14/20).
In the women’s race, Ella Halvarsson (9/10) won the sprint ahead of Johanna Skottheim (9/10) and Emma Nilsson (9/10), while Elvira Oeberg (19/20), the reigning world champion in the exercise, triumphed in the mass-start ahead of Ella Halvarsson (17/20) and Johanna Skottheim (16/20).
