Biathlon: gold for Louise Roguet in Östersund
The big day of the Mass-Starts 60 got off to the best possible start for the French biathlon team at the World Youth and Junior Championships in Östersund (Sweden).
In the women’s U19 race, which opened the programme on Monday morning, Louise Roguet from Haut-Savoie really shone. Since missing her mixed lying relay with very long shots due to tetanic stress, the biathlete from the Ski club nordique du Praz-de-Lys/Sommand has (almost) never missed a ball in this position.

This is what enabled her to take silver in the sprint two days ago. In the mass start, Louise Roguet did even better: at 18/20, following a 10/10 on the dismount, she quite simply became world youth champion in the mass start 60, taking over from Ukraine’s Oleksandra Merkushyna.
The Montblanc native is also only the sixth Frenchwoman to be crowned world champion in this category after Marion Blondeau (individual in 2004), Laure Bosc (individual and sprint in 2007), Marie-Laure Brunet (pursuit in 2007), Lou Jeanmonnot (individual in 2017) and Jeanne Richard (individual in 2021).
A solitary victory
The scenario for the race was a little crazy, as the future medallist was not at the front until the first standing shot. It was at this point on the mats that Sara Tronrud, Alice Dusserre and Heda Mikolasova, who were in the lead, each missed at least three times.

As a result, the race was completely restarted and Louise Roguet took advantage to take sole control of the race. She never relinquished this position, despite making a mistake with her last shot. Germany’s Lena Siegmund (19/20) won the sprint ahead of Czech Ilona Plechacova (17/20).
The day’s flower ceremony was completed by Melina Gaupp (17/20), Lena Baumann (18/20) and Sydney Wuestling (16/20), aged just 16. The other French girls finished a long way back, with Coralie Perrin (14/20) seventeenth, reigning world runner-up Lola Bugeaud (12/20) twenty-seventh and Alice Dusserre (13/20) thirty-third.
