Biathlon: Norway retains world junior sprint title
The men’s sprint at the world junior biathlon championships in Östersund (Sweden) was dominated by Norway’s Haavard Tosterud on Sunday afternoon, with the weather fluctuating between rain and snow. The 20-year-old biathlete, who clocked 10/10 and the fastest time on cross-country skis, claimed his first career U22 world crown.

He thus succeeds Isak Frey, the current leader of the IBU Cup, and becomes the eighth Norwegian to be crowned world junior sprint champion after Kjell Soebak (1978), Ole Einar Bjoerndalen (1993), Syver Berg-Domaas (1999), Emil Hegle Svendsen (2005), Vebjoern Soerum (2019, 2020), Martin Nevland (2022) and, therefore, Isak Frey (2024).

On the podium, he was joined by Slovakia’s Jakub Borgula (10/10), silver at 33.4 seconds, and the Czech Republic’s Petr Hak (10/10), bronze at 37.4 seconds , just ahead of Norway’s Kasper Kalkenberg (8/10).
The Junior Cup sprint globe goes to Croatia
Croatia’s Matija Legovic (9/10), who won the Junior Cup small globe in the sprint and takes the overall lead, and Austria’s Fabian Muellauer (10/10) completed the flower ceremony.

Germany’s Leonhard Pfund (10/10), Norway’s Sivert Gerhardsen (10/10), Montblanc’s Axel Garnier (9/10), the best Frenchman in ninth place, and Italy’s Christoph Pircher (9/10) all made it into the day’s top 10.
As for the other Frenchmen, Edgar Geny (7/10) was fifteenth, Gaëtan Paturel (7/10) sixteenth and Corentin Jacob (6/10) twenty-eighth.
