Biathlon: Östersund wants the 2031 world championships
In December 2023, a few weeks after the failure of the Swedish bid to host the 2030 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, the Swedish Biathlon Federation announced its intention to bid for the 2031 Biathlon World Championships.
This week, at the World Youth and Junior Championships held at the Swedish stadium, the bid for Östersund (Sweden) was officially launched.

“For the municipality of Östersund, this is a fantastic opportunity to consolidate our position as one of the world’s leading biathlon cities. We have a long tradition of hosting world-class competitions and, with the 2031 World Championships in sight, we want to continue to develop both biathlon events and our city,” explains Niklas Daoson, Chairman of Östersund City Council, in a press release.
As well as the slogan “Welcome to Biathland” , which defines Östersund as one of the biathlon capitals, a graphic charter and logo have also been revealed. The graphic expression reflects Sweden in the choice of colours and motifs and shows what is unique about Östersund: the heart of snow, nature with the unique Northern Lights and biathlon.
