Biathlon: Sivert Gerhardsen in a different category
A few hours after Célia Henaff won the women’s individual event at the Junior World Biathlon Championships in Östersund (Sweden), it was the men who were on deck.
At the Swedish National Biathlon Arena, it was the Norwegians who dominated the proceedings. One in particular, Sivert Gerhardsen, impressed with a 20/20 on the mats. Also fast on skis, with the fifth fastest time in the race, the 20-year-old biathlete won by a wide margin to become world junior individual champion.

Last year’s winner of the mass-start 60, he continues to put in fine performances year after year and , on Thursday, becomes the seventh Norwegian to win the individual gold medal at the World Junior Championships, following in the footsteps of Tor Svendsberget (1967, 1968), Ole Einar Bjoerndalen (1993), Syver Berg-Domaas (1999), Emil Hegle Svendsen (2005), Tore Leren (2014) and Sindre Pettersen (2017).

In silver, at 1 min 22 sec 6, was his compatriot Kasper Kalkenberg (19/20). Switzerland’s James Pacal (20/20), just days after taking part in the relay at the World Championships in Lenzerheide (Switzerland), took bronze at 1 min 35 sec 1. Estonia’s Jakob Kulbin (19/20), Finland’s Arttu Heikkinen (19/20) and Croatia’s Matija Legovic (18/20) rounded off the day’s flower ceremony.

Haut-Savoyard Edgar Geny (18/20) finished as the best Frenchman in eighth place. He is the only Frenchman to have competed at his level, withAxel Garnier (17/20) twenty-fifth, Gaëtan Paturel (15/20) twenty-eighth and Corentin Jacob (16/20) thirty-first.

Germany’s Linus Kesper (17/20), fifteenth on the day, won the Junior Cup individual globe.
