Biathlon: French triumph in Östersund
Les Bleus are on their own planet at the world youth and junior biathlon championships in Östersund (Sweden). Late on Monday morning, just a few minutes after Louise Roguet won the women’s U19 mass-start 60, the boys ran the perfect race.
In this format, in which the top thirty finishers complete two laps of cross-country skiing before their first shot, Flavio Guy from Doubt was on the offensive from the outset. Breaking away from the pack with Poland’s Grzegorz Galica, he took the lead in the first run. Unfurling his biathlon on his two shots in this position, the Franc-Comtois took a lead of almost 50 seconds over his pursuers.

It was then that he cracked on his first pass at the standing shot, missing three targets. However, in the Swedish wind, his opponents were also making mistakes and, before the final pass behind the rifle, Germany’s Lukas Tannheimer (15/20) was first… followed by three Frenchmen: Flavio Guy, Léo Carlier and Camille Grataloup-Manissolle.

Faulty four times on this shot, the German opened the doors of the saloon wide and the Tricolores entered easily, despite some mistakes. Mortuacian Léo Carlier (16/20) came out on top and went on to win his first world youth title , while Flavio Guy (14/20) and Camille Grataloup-Manissolle (14/20) followed on the podium to give the French team a fabulous treble.
Léo Carlier, the seventh French youth biathlon world champion
For the record, Léo Carlier succeeds Kasper Kalkenberg as the seventh French youth world champion after Simon Fourcade (individual in 2003), Ludwig Ehrhart (individual and pursuit in 2008, individual in 2009), Aristide Bègue (individual in 2012 and 2013), Fabien Claude (sprint in 2013), Emilien Claude (sprint and pursuit in 2017) and Antonin Guy (individual in 2024 and 2025).

The latter took eleventh place in this race at 13/20. It should be noted that Grzegorz Galica (13/20), fourth in the ranking, crossed the finish line much further back, but was credited with 65 seconds after being hampered at the first standing shot, with Norway’s Leo Gundersen shooting at his targets.
