Biathlon: bronze for the French U19s in the mixed relay at the World Championships
Crowned world youth champions in the mixed biathlon relay last year in Otepää (Estonia), the French team was aiming to make it two this Friday lunchtime in Östersund (Sweden). Unfortunately, from the very first relay run by Louise Roguet, the race took a wrong turn as the Montblanc native, although she didn’t turn on the penalty ring, stayed on her mat for a long time.

So, with four picks, she gave the lead to Lola Bugeaud in ninth place, 1 min 10 sec 5 off the lead. From then on, Les Bleus began a fantastic comeback. Taking advantage of their opponents’ cracks, the Haut-Savoyard, Camille Grataloup-Manissolle and Léo Carlier enabled the French team to claw back placesslowly but surely.

In the end, Léo Carlier from Doubt, who was last on the rope, came in fourth, some twenty seconds from the medal. Norway(Martine Skog, Bjoerg Eide, Tov Roeysland, Leo Gundersen), crowned champions, were untouchable, as were Germany(Lena Siegmund, Melina Gaupp, Lukas Tannheimer, Korbi Kuebler), silver medallists.

The Czech Republic, on the other hand, got off to a bad start with Jakub Bouska. Just as Heda Mikolasova, Ilona Plechacova and Simon Hurta had managed to put the Czechs in the lead, he largely failed to fire and even finished fifth. France, with twelve picks in total, took advantage of the situation to snatch bronze ahead of fourth-placed Canada.
