Biathlon: Julia Simon wins four gold medals in Lenzerheide
Having returned to her native Beaufortain in recent days after a magnificent biathlon world championships in Lenzerheide (Switzerland), Julia Simon is currently enjoying a well-deserved rest.
In the canton of Grisons, the 28-year-old from Savoie won four new world titles. These performances brought her total to ten gold medals, more than any other biathlete in history with the exception of Marte Olsbu Roeiseland (13) and Magdalena Neuner (12).

“Lenzerheide was the main objective of my season. I prepared ideally at Les Saisies, and my fitness came back at just the right time. I felt that I was fit enough to play up front. That gives you confidence for shooting, and the good sensations just kept coming, she enthused in a press release. I just had to get back to my natural self and do my biathlon.”
Eight world titles in twelve months
As part of her Swiss success, Julia Simon became world champion in the individual event.
“It’s not my favourite format because I don’t feel cut out for it, she admits. So I’m very proud of this title and of my record over the last two seasons. It’s a testament to my consistency at the highest level.” Over the last two seasons, the Savoyard rider is in fact eight-times world champion.

Julia Simon hopes to ride this wave of confidence during the final three World Cup stages in Nove Mesto (Czech Republic), Pokljuka (Slovenia) and Oslo-Holmenkollen (Norway): “I want to build on my current form and my confidence to finish the season on a high.”
