Biathlon : Sophie Chauveau talks about her relegation from the IBU Cup
In December, Sophie Chauveau from Haut-Savoie came second in the sprint in Hochfilzen (Austria) and in the first two relays of the season. But the reigning world relay champion was too inconsistent, missing her week in Le Grand-Bornand (Haute-Savoie) before Christmas.
On 30 December last year, itwas announced that she would be relegated from the World Cup to the IBU Cup to make way for Paula Botet . Since then, the Bornandine has not spoken publicly.
A season that didn’t go at all as I had hoped and a return to the IBU Cup that was hard to accept,” she wrote on Instagram this Saturday evening, addressing her fans. I left this circuit two years ago to experience the best moments and memories of my career on the World Cup circuit. I’ve learned, I’ve grown and I’ve really enjoyed sharing my emotions with you at every moment.
“I have seen and received a lot of nasty, negative and hateful messages following this news”.
“However, the current level of the French women’s team is too much higher than mine. I had to agree to return to the IBU Cup circuit and I’ve had to question myself a lot,” she continues. In Arber (Germany) then Brezno-Osrblie (Slovakia), Sophie Chauveau has completed five individual races in the last two weeks. She has never finished outside the top 8, but has finished on the podium.
“I’ve seen and received a lot of nasty, negative and hateful messages following this news, but what’s most important is that I’M LUCKY to have family, friends, loved ones and sponsors who support me, no matter what results I achieve or what circuit I’m on”, continues the Montblanc native.

To conclude her message, Sophie Chauveau shows herself to be combative and ready to take on this new challenge. ” I’m writing to tell you that I continue to believe, that I continue to fight to improve and, whether you like it or not, I’ll continue to do this sport, shooting in the white or in the dark, skiing fast or slow and that, in any case, I’m doing it for me,” she concludes.
