Biathlon: half of the German team for Kontiolahti named
After spending three weeks at altitude in Bessans (Savoie) at the end of September/beginning of October, the German national biathlon team has been in Oberhof (Germany) for several days. Reconnecting with the snow in the refrigerated tunnel, the Germans will soon be flying off to their final training camp , organised, as has often been the case in recent years, in Vuokatti (Finland).
There will be plenty at stake there: firstly, fine-tuning the final details with just a few weeks to go before the start of the World Cup, but also selecting the last biathletes for the event. At the moment, as Felix Bitterling, director of German biathlon, confirmed to the Sport.de and Abendzeitung media, only six athletes have a guaranteed ticket.
On the women’s side, it’s Franziska Preuss and Vanessa Voigt, while Johannes Kuehn, Justus Strelow, Philipp Nawrath and Philipp Horn will all be heading to Kontiolahti at the end of the month.
The Finnish final stage will see Selina Grotian, Hanna Kebinger, Sophia Schneider, Johanna Puff, Julia Kink, Julia Tannheimer and Marion Wiesensarter battle it out for four women’s tickets. Roman Rees, Simon Kaiser, David Zobel, Danilo Riethmueller and Lucas Fratzscher, meanwhile, will be fighting for just two men’s places.
