Biathlon: Jakub Borgula in the footsteps of Pavol Hurajt
World youth champion in theindividual event in March 2023 on the slopes of Shchuchinsk (Kazakhstan), Jakub Borgula embodies the next generation of Slovakian biathlon. After competing in the Junior Cup for most of last winter, the 20-year-old biathlete also made his IBU Cup debut at the end of the season on the slopes ofObertilliach (Austria).

Twice winner of the Junior Cup last winter, the player who has long combined tennis and skiing could well discover the World Cup in a few weeks’ time.
“I’m looking forward to the season because I should finally be taking part in the World Cup. I still need to score points to make that dream come true and I hope to be able to take part in IBU Cups frequently,” he told Slovensky Biathlon. But as this will also be my last junior season, I’d like to finish with a medal at the Worlds. I’m really looking forward to it.

An economics student, the young man quickly realised that his career could take a completely different turn at the World Youth Championships in Soldier Hollow (USA) in 2022. ” I still don’t understand how I managed to become world pursuit champion at just 18. I never expected it to happen to me,” he says. I now know that if I want to repeat this kind of feat, I need to train even harder .
And after a summer spent in a group of six men’s athletes and Pauline Batovska-Fialkova, Jakub Borgula has his teeth into it and intends to show the full extent of his potential over the coming weeks. I’m training very well with the new group, and I’m delighted that this team has been created, “ he says with satisfaction. We sometimes ask Paulina for advice because she’s a very experienced competitor. I’m very happy with the work we’ve done over the summer and autumn.
