Biathlon: Lydia Hiernickel is pregnant
Until a few weeks ago, Swiss biathlete Lydia Hiernickel, 27, was still training with her national team in Ramsau (Austria), putting her skis back on on the Dachstein glacier. What we didn’t know was that the former cross-country skier was expecting a happy event.
The news was made official on Monday morning in an Instagram post. “This winter looks quite different, no competition season instead a new challenge that is still waiting”, she wrote. In a press release, Swiss-Ski states that its athlete will give birth in the spring of 2025.
“My objectives are clear: I want to do everything I can to return to biathlon at the highest level for the 2025/2026 Olympic season. I would like to warmly thank my family, Swiss-Ski and my employer, the Federal Office of Customs and Border Protection, for the support they have given me,” said the athlete in the same communication.
Since switching from cross-country skiing to biathlon a few winters ago, Lydia Hiernickel has mainly expressed herself on the IBU Cup circuit, claiming an individual podium and another top 10 finish. With three World Cup starts to her name, she has never finished in the points.
