Biathlon: Johannes Thingnes Boe misses the standing shot
A few days after speaking out about his potential end to his career, Johannes Thingnes Boe was back in business this Saturday in the sprint of the opening Norwegian biathlon races in Sjusjøen (Norway). Inevitably expected as the outgoing winner of the World Cup crystal globe, the Norwegian didn’t really fight for victory.

Although he got off to a good start with a solid 5/5 in the prone section, the Scandinavian then lost time in the second part of the race. In fact, when it came to his standing shot, the 31-year-old biathlete made two mistakes, despite appearing to be in control just a few minutes earlier.
And although he had started on the skis with standards close to his own, Johannes Thingnes Boe let some time slip away at the end of the race. By only posting the tenth fastest time of the day, the native of Stryn (Norway) showed that he was not quite ready yet.

“I wasn’t ready for that. I didn’t want to race today and my head wasn’t in it, he told La Chaîne L’Equipe. I can’t really explain it, but I think I need a bit of a rest. Now I’m going to concentrate on the World Cup. I think I’m in good shape, but I need more sleep and rest.”
Placed in the top 10 but still 45 seconds behind the winner, his compatriot Vetle Sjaastad Christiansen, the world number one in the discipline will have the chance to test himself again this Sunday in the mass-start, the second and final event of these Norwegian opening races, even if he believes that this event “will still be too early” to perform to the best of his ability.
