Biathlon: another black screen at the IBU Cup
Although the 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 seasons of the IBU Cup biathlon circuit were broadcast on the Eurovision Sport platform worldwide and on La Chaîne L’Equipe in France, the International Biathlon Union (IBU) decided not to continue this coverage last winter.
“The IBU and Eurovision [which produced and broadcast the events, editor’s note] have decided to stop broadcasting the IBU Cup, but to revert to digital coverage with the publication of highlights and reports”, explained the IBU’s communications department in our columns at the time.

A year later, the situation has not changed and a new black screen will fall over the B circuit, which launches this Thursday in Austria. ” There have been no discussions about broadcasting because the approach we have adopted has proved to be the right one, and the content created by our staff on site guarantees good visibility for the IBU Cup, compared with streaming and its production costs,” confirms the IBU, who were asked about this by Nordic Magazine.

While there will be no footage of the races scheduled in Obertilliach (Austria), Ridnaun-Val Ridanna (Italy), Lenzerheide (Switzerland), Arber (Germany), Brezno-Osrblie (Slovakia), Sjusjøen (Norway), the second stage, and Lake Placid (USA), the European Championships in Sjusjøen will be broadcast from 28 January to 1 February.
The World Youth and Junior Championships in Arber, scheduled from 28 February to 8 March, will also be taking place.
