Biathlon : Gilonne Guigonnat dropped from the group going to Grand-Bornand
There was bound to be one disappointed member of theFrench women’s biathlon team at the end of the second weekend of the World Cup in Hochfilzen, in the Austrian Tyrol. Having competed with seven athletes since the start of the winter season, the French team has now been deprived of a quota.

The members of the staff had to rack their brains to make a choice and decide on a name that would not feature in the highly-anticipated competitions in Grand-Bornand (Haute-Savoie). And the name that was chosen was Gilonne Guigonnat.
Despite a lacklustre opening stage in Finland, the Haut-Savoyard gradually regained her form. She put in a solid performance in the Austrian pursuit, finishing ninth. However, as the last Frenchwoman in the overall ranking in twenty-sixth place, the 26-year-old biathlete was sidelined for this main reason.
In terms of results since the start of the season and over the first three weeks of the World Cup, Gilonne was a little behind the others,” explained Stéphane Bouthiaux, head of the French teams, to Nordic Magazine. She had a great pursuit on Saturday, but in fact, in the overall rankings, she’s still behind the others, even though she did very well!

It was a difficult decision for the whole of the French contingent: “Today, we lost a quota and we absolutely had to make a decision. I think that overall, since the start of the season, she’s been the one who’s been performing a little less well than the others. In a way, this decision was obvious”, adds the Doubiste.
