Biathlon: an important week for the Canadians
In this first week of November, the Canadian biathletes are competing in their selections in Canmore (Canada). On the Alberta snowfarm, the stakes will be tickets for the World Cup and/or the IBU Cup.
While Nadia Moser, Adam Runnalls and Pascale Paradis are pre-qualified for the international competitions thanks to their past performances, there are still six men’s and six women’s places up for grabs under the Canadian quotas.
The programme is simple, with three consecutive sprints to be contested: the first on Wednesday, the second on Friday and the third on Saturday. Note that the format will be special because there is currently not enough snow in Canmore to form a penalty ring. Penalties will be calculated in seconds: 24 for the women for each target missed and 22 for the men.
Finally, Friday’s sprint will be even more special as the shooting will take place like the gold in a relay, with three pickaxe balls to be used before possibly being sanctioned with penalty seconds.
