Biathlon: the Antholz Pre-Olympic World Cup takes place this week
After stages in Kontiolahti (Finland), Hochfilzen (Austria), Annecy – Le Grand-Bornand (Haute-Savoie), Oberhof (Germany) and Ruhpolding (Germany), the 2024/2025 Biathlon World Cup moves to Antholz-Anterselva (Italy) this week for its sixth round.
In Trentino-Alto Adige, at the Südtirol Arena, a World Cup is being held that is important in more ways than one. Firstly, it is the pre-Olympic event just one year before the Milan/Cortina 2026 Games. Secondly, it will be an opportunity to test the new configuration of the Italian stadium in race mode, and in particular its new Oslo-Holmenkollen-style finish, with a track that now runs behind the shooting range and a long final straight.

Finally, this stage of the world circuit will be remarkable becauseit is the last to be organised before the world championships in Lenzerheide (Switzerland) scheduled for February.
On Thursday, the women’s sprint will be on the programme (2.30pm), followed by the boys’ sprint at the same time the next day. On Saturday, the men will compete in a pursuit (13:00) and the women in a relay (14:55), while Sunday will be reserved for the women’s relay (12:05) and the men’s pursuit (14:45).
