Biathlon: Johannes Thingnes Boe beats Ole Einar Bjoerndalen and Martin Fourcade
Since Saturday and Johannes Thingnes Boe ‘s demonstration in the sprint at the biathlon world championships in Lenzerheide (Switzerland), three men have sat at the top of the sport: the future Norwegian retiree, Ole Einar Bjoerndalen and Martin Fourcade.
All three had a total of eleven individual world titles in their trophy cabinets. Only Johannes Thingnes Boe won the pursuit brilliantly on Sunday afternoon in Graubünden, adding a twelfth individual gold medal to his immense list of honours.
He thus becomes the greatest biathlete in the history of the world championships. It is also his twenty-second world title, including the relay, two more than his illustrious compatriot Ole Einar Bjoerndalen. Johannes Thingnes Boe also completed his second world sprint/chase double after 2023, winning his third consecutive world title in the format.
Finally, the Norwegian has won the ninth sprint/chase double in the history of the World Championships, following in the footsteps of Pavel Rostovtsev (2001), Ole Einar Bjoerndalen (2005, 2007, 2009), Martin Fourcade (2012, 2016) and himself (2023). It is also his fortieth world medal.
