CISM (Conseil International du Sport Militaire) and the IBU officially signed a memorandum of understanding following the Fifth Military World Winter Games in Lucerne (Switzerland), which took place from 25 to 28 March.
The agreement, signed by CISM President Colonel Nilton Rolim and IBU President Olle Dahlin, aims to foster mutual development, strengthen cooperation and promote biathlon .
“This agreement represents a strong commitment to promoting excellence in military sport and reinforcing the values of discipline, teamwork and international cooperation through biathlon,” said Colonel Nilton Rolim in a CISM statement.
IBU President Olle Dahlin shares this sentiment: “The IBU is proud to partner with CISM on this important initiative. We share the same values of fair play, sustainable development and global engagement, and we look forward to this cooperation.”
The protocol describes a framework for collaboration between CISM and the IBU based on four points:
- Developing and promoting biathlon among military athletes.
- Joint education and training initiatives for athletes, coaches and officials.
- Shared efforts to promote the fight against doping, gender equality and sport for peace and solidarity.
- Coordination of event planning and integration into each organisation’s sports calendar.
