Biathlon: the French men’s team back to seven
For the 2025/2026 training season, which kicks off in a few days’ time, the French men’s A biathlon team will have seven members: Eric Perrot, Emilien Jacquelin, Fabien Claude, Quentin Fillon-Maillet, Emilien Claude, Oscar Lombardot and Antonin Guigonnat.
This is a radical change from last summer, when only five boys trained under Simon Fourcade and Jean-Pierre Amat. While the presence of Emilien Claude from Bassur, who scored a World Cup podium during the winter, was logical, the presence of Antonin Guigonnat and Oscar Lombardot could have been questioned.
However, the coaching staff decided to place them in the A training group. “We decided on this simply because they have shown great promise,” Stéphane Bouthiaux, Director of the French National Teams, explained to Nordic Magazine. Oscar [Lombardot] has made great progress in sporting terms and we’re counting on him for the future, and Antonin [Guigonnat] has shown that he still deserves his place in this training group. There’s also a big age difference with all the youngsters we’ve put in Group B.”
A rejuvenated Group B, without Rémi Broutier
The B team, made up ofAxel Garnier, Edgar Geny, Théo Guiraud-Poillot, Valentin Lejeune, Damien Levet, Gaëtan Paturel, Corentin Jacob and Martin Botet, has been largely rejuvenated.
“These are youngsters we’re betting on because we think they have potential. They’ve lacked consistency, but at times they’ve shown a good level,” says Stéphane Bouthiaux. We need to feed the men’s ranks and we’ve made the decision to include a significant number of boys in this group.
This policy proved fatal for Savoyard Rémi Broutier, who was dropped from the federal team. “He’s about to turn 25 and he’s been stagnating for two or three seasons. We prefer to bring in new blood, but he knows he’ll be back if he has to be back,” comments the head of French biathlon. He’s not where he should be at the age he is, bearing in mind that he’s a year older than Eric Perrot!
