Biathlon: magnificent Paul Fontaine in pursuit of the World University Games
This Monday morning, the biathlon events at the Turin 2025 World University Games continued with the men’s pursuit. In the top 10 at the start of the race, Bornandin’s Paul Fontaine and Peiserot’s Nathanaël Peaquin had high hopes of a medal.

In a race contested in tricky conditions due to snowfall, there were several twists and turns. First, there was the cracking performance of Sweden’s Knut Vikstroem (14/20), the sprint medallist, followed by that of Kazakhstan’s Nikita Akimov (16/20), crowned two days ago and fifth at the finish.
Ukraine do the double
So many open doors for Paul Fontaine. With 16/20, but above all one of the fastest ski times of the day, the Frenchman was back in the race for the podium after the third shot. In the final round, he was in with a chance of silver against Ukraine’s Serhii Suprun (16/20). Suprun, who was faster in the final metres, took second place, with Paul Fontaine having to be content with a fine bronze medal.

It was Bohdan Borkovskyi (16/20), third at the start, who took the solo gold. In fourth place, as in the sprint, was Nathanaël Peaquin (15/20), while Adrien Baylac (17/20) came twelfth.
