Biathlon: Nathanaël Peaquin succeeds Axel Garnier on the list of winners
Two years ago, at the Mt. Van Hoevenberg, Axel Garnier from Montblanc experienced some magnificent emotions when he won the gold medal in the biathlon mass-start at the Lake Placid 2023 World University Games. Since then, the Sallanchard has made great strides, culminating in his participation in the IBU Cup at the start of this winter.

Nathanaël Peaquin from Savoie, who won the same event in Pragelato (Italy) on Wednesday morning, is no doubt dreaming of the same fate. In this final race of the Turin 2025 World University Games, the Peiserot was in the shadows for a long time. Not quite at the front, but never out of his depth, he came out 5/5 at the best of times (in the last standing shot).

Taking advantage of his opponents’ mistakes – Kazakh rider Kirill Bauer(16/20), alone in the lead, made three mistakes and had to settle for bronze – he emerged alone in the lead from this final passage over the mats and was able to savour the final loop. In the end, Nathanaël Peaquin crossed the finish line carrying the national flag in heavy snow.
Sweden’s Karl Greenland (19/20) took silver, while Adrien Baylac (15/20) was ninth and Paul Fontaine (13/20) twelfth.
