Biathlon: the end of the road for Alex Cisar, who becomes an airline pilot
After two years of silence on his social networks, Slovenia’s Alex Cisar posted a message again early on Friday afternoon to announce the official end of his career as a top-level sportsman.
The native of Kranj (Slovenia) hasn’t been seen on the World Cup since March 2023, and hasn’t competed internationally since December of the same year, so at the age of 25 he’s coming to an end. “ I’m infinitely grateful for the time spent in the biathlon family, the daily training, the thrill of the race and all the emotions – from disappointment to success,” he wrote on Instagram.

In his short career, Alex Cisar has achieved great things, becoming double world youth champion in 2019 in Brezno-Osrblie (Slovakia) and then European junior champion the following year in Hochfilzen (Austria). At the 2023 World Championships in Oberhof (Germany), he finished nineteenth in the individual race and seventeenth in the mass start.
The Slovenian’s new life is in the air, as Alex Cisar recently became co-pilot of the Airbus A320. ” After countless hours of study, simulator sessions and dedication, I have achieved one of my greatest dreams: to fly a real passenger aircraft,” he enthuses.
